At the end of July we start the much needed work to improve the pool to make it better for everyone.
Over the last 43 years Carn Brea’s pool has welcomed millions of swimmers and splash-abouters from all across Cornwall. 43 years of constant use takes its toil and it’s now time for us to refurbish the pool to ensure the next 43 years are just as fun, safe and exciting.
At the end of July we start the much needed work to improve the pool to make it better for everyone. We’ve been busy raising the bulk of the money needed however we aren’t quite there and we need your help to get us over the finishing line.
You see, leisure centres like ours, weren’t designed to make lots of money and so although we’ve done a great job at running the leisure centre without any subsidy, it’s been a stretch too far for us to raise the funds to pay for the major repairs the swimming pools needs all by ourselves.
The swimming pools at Carn Brea are at the heart of the centre, and the community, with more than 250,000 swims recorded last year alone – multiply this by 43 years and it’s no wonder the pool facilities need some TLC.
Sport England and Cornwall Council, along with other funders, have agreed to support the refurb and with their help we have raised over a £1million. We still need at least £80k to be able to successfully complete the project.
It sounds like a lot of money but there’s an awful lot to do. We need to completely re-line both pools to stop the leaks, renew the poolside surround so you’re not in danger of slipping, create a new learner and family space so we can welcome more budding little swimmers, take down some walls, fix the leaky roof and brighten the whole place up with new lights and, of course, a fresh lick of paint.
All of a sudden that £1million doesn’t go far and that’s why we need your help. Become a Carn Brea Champions and help us cross the finishing line together.
